How to Shop Small Business Saturday Like a Pro!

Last Updated 11/26/2024

Let’s face it – finding the perfect gift for everyone on your list can be overwhelming! While it may be tempting to avoid the post-Thanksgiving shopping rush altogether and make your purchases online instead, there are plenty of reasons to hit the streets of Frostburg on Small Business Saturday. Plan to spend Saturday, November 30th celebrating the locally-owned businesses that make Downtown Frostburg unique. Read on to find out how to do Small Business Saturday like a pro!
Pro Tip: Wear comfortable shoes and warm clothing

You’ll likely be doing a lot of walking around town on Small Business Saturday, and Frostburg weather can be unpredictable, especially in late November. Make smart outerwear and footwear choices for the day – your body will thank you by the end of the day!

Pro Tip: Take Advantage of Free City-Wide Parking

Thanks to the Frostburg Business and Professional Association and the City of Frostburg, public downtown parking is free throughout the holiday season. Parking lots are located behind the Frostburg Public Library, behind St. Michael Catholic Church, on Mechanic Street across from City Place, on Broadway just before Clatter Coffee, AND, the brand new lot on W Mechanic/Park Street.

Pro Tip: Take advantage of freebies

Starting at 10AM, stop by the FrostburgFirst welcome table in City Place to warm up with complimentary hot cocoa and pick up some sweet Shop Small swag (while supplies last).

Pro Tip: Plan Your Route

Check out the shopping guide on our directory or grab a copy this year’s Shopping Guide from FrostburgFirst and check out each participating business’s specials and store hours. From there, you’ll be able to pick your favorite shops and discover some new ones along the way!

Pro Tip: Check your bags and take advantage of gift wrapping

Don’t worry about carrying heavy or awkward packages all over town. FrostburgFirst is offering a FREE bag check service at City Place. When your arms get tired or full, simply drop off your packages along with your name and phone number, and we’ll look after them for you until you are ready to head home.

Additionally, take advantage of complimentary gift wrapping from LACE so you don't have to hide those gifts as soon as you get home! They will also be collecting for Toys for Happiness.

Pro Tip: Be on the lookout for pickles

Once again pickles will be hidden in downtown businesses for the day! Find one and bring it back to City Place to be entered to win prizes!

Pro Tip: Don't just shop retail

Remember that shopping local doesn’t just mean retail! Dining, services, and experiences count too, so don’t forget them while you’re out and about. Besides, gift cards are perfect for the people on your list who seem to have everything and make great stocking stuffers. (can't decide on a gift card spot you can always buy Burg Bucks! Useful in most Downtown Frostburg businesses!)

Be sure to follow FrostburgFirst on Facebook and Instagram for Small Business Saturday updates, store specials, and chances to win gift cards to your favorite Frostburg small businesses. We can’t wait to see you shopping small on Saturday, November 30th!
