Josh "Pap" Miller spends the days with his hands at labor and his mind distilling thoughts and experiences into songs. He's lived around here his whole life, though traveled much. From his early teen years in punk band "The Sirs," through other bands like State Run Disease, Soulmobile, Worn Joy, and solo projects, he's been a force. I know him, and off stage he's gotten quieter and quieter. One day a golden, mournful, and deeply present sound came out of his mouth, and he'd found his true singing voice. I didn't run this by him, I'm just telling you, what you're going to see is a guy who feels a lot and thinks a lot, but doesn't say a lot, opening his mouth in the one arena he feels comfortable doing so.
William Matheney is a guy who other musicians have been telling us to get on our stage for years. As a solo artist (and in bands) he's played on WV public radio's Mountain Stage, and all over the place. He's been in bands like The Recipe, Southeast Engine, and more. His lyric-driven style reminds people of Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe, maybe even Jim Croce or Jason Molina.
Come out and hear some voices.
