Meet Our New Intern!
About Me
Hi my name is Olivia Stetler and I am from Vineland, NJ. I am in my 7th semester here at Frostburg State University. One more to go… Whoop, Whoop!!! I am majoring in Strategic Communications while minoring in Journalism. I also am a catcher for the softball team here at FSU. When I go home for the summers, I work for a dolphin watch tour and jet ski rental. On my off days, I love to spend time out on the water fishing and blogging my trips. I hope that I can maintain a fishing channel as I go into my next steps in life because I have found a true interest in fishing journalism. I am still not exactly decided on what I want to pursue. I have a strong passion for softball and always will, so I plan on becoming a Graduate Assistant for the next two years. Becoming a Graduate Assistant will allow me to further my education while also allowing me to become a head coach at a college later down the line. Why FrostburgFirst?
FrostburgFirst seems like an amazing opportunity to learn more about public relations while also preparing me for the next steps of life outside of college. Like I have said before, I am not exactly sure what I want to pursue in life but I think FrostburgFirst will be an amazing guide. FrostburgFirst gets very involved with the Frostburg community and I look forward to becoming a part of that. Finding a community and maintaining a community is very difficult and I believe FrostburgFirst will show me how to be a part of a community first hand. After the pandemic I believe that communities all over the world died down or became nonexistent. In this world, I believe communities are essential. I look forward to learning how to build a community whether it be through social media, a job, town, or whatever it may be. FrostburgFirst also plans and coordinates many different events. I have never planned an event before so it will be interesting to see how an event is planned through a business standpoint. There is just so much to learn from this internship and I look forward to every bit of it.
My Knowledge About Frostburg
I am a senior here at Frostburg but I do not know much about the town or university. Sad, I know. The most I know about is the coffee shops around Frostburg because as a college student, caffeine is a must. People always talk about how much history there is in the town and on campus but I have not had the chance to get fully informed about the history. With FrostburgFirst I am sure I will learn about a lot of the history there is here at Frostburg. Especially because the museum is right across from the office. As I start to learn more about the history of Frostburg, I can relay it back to my peers so they have a better understanding as well. It is hard to reach an audience such as my age group when it comes to history. That is why I am excited to learn about the history and inform my peers about it. There are plenty of events that the town of Frostburg holds but I hope I can be another powerful voice that advertises these events through campus.
Why Did I Choose Frostburg State University
When it came down to choosing where I wanted to go to school, it came down to location, majors offered, and softball. There were many schools that I was looking into but Frostburg felt the most comfortable. I am from a small town in New Jersey where everyone knows each other. When it came to touring schools, I loved the small town feel. I looked at a few city schools but just did not feel safe. When I came for my tour, a girl said that “Frostburg is probably the safest school feel.” That of course made my parents and myself feel at ease. The scenic overlooks also were a huge plus. For my first two years of school, I was undecided on my major so it was also very important that Frostburg had many options to choose from. Frostburg just felt like home.
